Model of a tire wheel for a bicycle or vehicle

Model of a tire wheel for a bicycle or vehicle

(OP)
Whats up guys. How should I get started on creating a tire pattern on Solidworks? I have no clue where to begin. What facts to remember when creating this pattern around a circular object feature. Anyone know how I should begin.
I want to be able to model a bicycle or wheel including the rims in the future for a portfolio. Thanks

RE: Model of a tire wheel for a bicycle or vehicle

Hmmm.

rim
1)revolve the profile of the rim/tire
2) create reference geometry axis
3)cut extrude a spoke hole and
4)create a circular pattern for one side of the spoke holes.
5)pattern that set to the other side
6)move face/rotate those so they are staggered.

Get the rim (and tire) dimensions from T&RA in Ohio

I've got a parametric tire model set up, that's pretty neat for my purposes. The rim profile is a bit harder as the definitions are very vague.

I found this link [http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1696774] quite valuable for modeling purposes. It's missing the variables to completely model the wheel but it's a much better start than I'm used to. Obviously, u'll need to obtain the dimensions for each specific wheel.

The maker of that thread has access to lots of useful info regarding vehicle rims but note his signature before contacting him. Given his business, I suspect I know why...

Yes, that's the wheel spider dimensions. To design a real wheel you need to design the rim properly, which is what is defined (not very tightly) in the T&RA book.
