UG Requirements

(OP)
Ok first let me start off by saying that I hate UG so much that it hurts!
Unfortunately, my company is dictated to have at least 1 seat of UG up and running for our work with GM.  The interesting thing, for those of you who may work with GM is that they dictate when and how you will update your system.  Luckily, we have yet to be forced to upgrade from NX2.  However, as newer and newer systems are released, I can see them wanting us to upgrade soon.  This being said, I have a concern that I am suprised I can not find any information on.

Can soemone tell me what they would reccomend for a computer system to run NX5.

Currently, our main CAD station is a Dell (also not a fan) with the following.  200GB hd, Windows 2000 SP4, Intel(R)Xeo Dual 1.7GHz processors, and 1GB of RAM.  I really don't think this will be a good enough system for much longer to run the next few versions of UG.  Any thoughts?

I tried UGS's website with no luck, and sent off 3 e-mails with no response.  So I thought I would ask in here.

RE: UG Requirements

First and foremost, GM is not upgrading to NX 5.0 any time soon.  I think they are scheduled to goto NX 4.0 sometime next year, but that is nothing I can confirm.

Also, with that being said, I have never seen GM force people to upgrade.  But, companies should have a plan in place to upgrade at least every three years.

I was working on a Ultra 60 with 1.5 gigs of ram until I got a Dell 2.4 ghz PC.  Light years beyond that Sun machine.

I'm certain you would be fine with the equipment you have.

And do not hate UG, it's a very nice CAD system.

RE: UG Requirements

If you can't find the info, give GTAC or your dealer a call.  They would be more than glad to help out.

RE: UG Requirements

Search the UG website a little harder. They do have a certified machine listing.

For general specs: fastest CPU, 80GB drive, 256MB or 512MB Nvidia graphics card, 2-4GB RAM, XPpro OS.

If you do large assemblies go with a 64bit machine with 6-8GB of memory.

Wow.... I looked and looked...

It must just be one of those days.  Well thanks for the info...

RE: UG Requirements

This is the UGS certified systems link:

The actual hardware MINIMUM specs are in the Release Notes.
