How to Access Microsoft Format Toolbars for unlinked drawing object?

How to Access Microsoft Format Toolbars for unlinked drawing object?

(OP)
I was wondering if there was a way to use the toolbars in an excel table created as an unlinked object within a Pro/E drawing. I know with linked *.xls objects when you double click it in the drawing you are taken into the excel file where you can access all excel functionality.

In UG there is an UGcalc Add-in for excel that allows you to use Excel with all the Pull Down menus. This functionality seems to be missing on the non linked excel object. While there is a lot of useful tools with icons available with the excel object including the very amusing and possibly useful text to speech tool, which I can't get to pronounce "-" as dash instead of to
So 15-1123 is read as
15 dash 1123 and not
15 to 11 23 even with Text as the cell format type.

Other problems I've had with the linked spreadsheet object is getting the size right for the text, Pro/E seems to be very jumpy during zooming in or out and the size will sometimes explode. I was also wondering about config options for excel or other objects in Pro/E.

I'm currently working on testing this functionality out but if someone has already started working on this and has any insight I'd appreciate it.

I currently believe that having a separate sheet where the Excel linked sheet is brought in and displaying a Pro/E excel object copied from a start template with the proper formatting and using the CTRL key for what it was originally intended for would be the best method to use.

RE: How to Access Microsoft Format Toolbars for unlinked drawing object?

mjcole,

I've no experience of this area of ProE so can't offer any advice on your query but this is an area that I'm interested in learning about.  You obviously know a fair bit about linking models to excel etc, any suggestions on areas what areas of functionality that I should look at first or any useful references?  I'm specifically interested in being able to drive models from an excel file, export parameters to excel for calculation and whether this can be done automatically without having to manually locate files/file locations etc.

Thanks
