Horse Saddle

I have done a search on this forum (I admit I am not very good at that) for "Horse Saddle", that is a Swept Surface where the Path (along horse's spine) is a Hyperbola and the Profile ("around" the horse) is a Parabola.

The problem is that as far as I know SW2007 does not have Hyperbola in the Sketch Tools.

I solved it by splitting a Cone with a Plane which produses a Hyperbola.

If anybody is interested in this I will try to make more explaining post.

RE: Horse Saddle

The hyperbola thing has come up a million times (pardon the hyperbole). rofl

The split-cone is about the only way to get a true hyperbola.  Is there a reason you need a "true" hyperbola?  Is this for a real horse?

Nope, just a little brain exercise ... sad

RE: Horse Saddle

Looks like a Pringles function.
What an elegant solution....nice...!!!

It looks like what TateJ has shown, but I bet that:

1) what would be the Path (along horse's spine) is a circle segment - mine is a true hyperbola

2) what would be the "wrap" around the horse is also a circle segment - mine is a parabola.

Of course point 2) would be easy to replace with Parabola, which exists in Tools Sketch Entities.

Anyway, I am still checking the points on the Hyperbola using Design Table and so far it looks like I've got a true Hyperbola as a Path for Sweep (of Parabola), that is something that satisfies the equation:

x^2/a^2 - y^2/b^2 = 1

Actually I am not getting 1.00000000 but something like:
0.99999940, 0.99999991 etc., but I think this is because of rounding done by SW.
