Basic steel calc question

Basic steel calc question

Basic steel calc question

(OP)
Can anyone recommend a good, easy-reading reference which covers selecting beam sizes and types for handling simple loads?  Thx...

RE: Basic steel calc question

Design Of Steel Structures
Gaylord, Gaylord & Stallmeyer
Mc Graw Hill

is a nice book and covers lots of steel subjects.

RE: Basic steel calc question

An author named Harry Parker put out a series of books called "Simplified Design of..." for various materials such as steel, wood, and concrete.  It was published by John Wiley & Sons.

RE: Basic steel calc question

First choice:
Gaylord and Gaylord,
but this requires some knowlege of steel structural design and is not recommended as the first book

you may use the following together
1. Steelm Design
by Macormic (guess thats the way the author spells)
2. Steel Desing using LRFD
Rokach (Schaum Series) Good Book

Hope you'll find them useful

RE: Basic steel calc question

Then, of course, there is the AISC Manual of Steel Construction...

Imagineer

RE: Basic steel calc question

I second Imagineer on this one. The charts and examples in the AISC Manual are usually very user friendly.
