Greetings all,

i've looked at various 3d CAD software like
Bentley Autoplant & Cadworx plant but these
are overlays on top of Autocad.

Are there any other easy to use & powerful
3d cad software suitable for drawing
plant layouts involving piping, tanks, valves,
& pumps.

thanks for assist...

I haven't used ProE in a while but at one time they had a module for piping (saw it but did never used it).  I do not know if it would cover your needs.

ProE is powerful, as to ease of use, best to try and see if you can arrange a demo etc.

AutoPLANT, CadWORX, PDMS, PDS are leaders of plant layouts programs. Besides 3d modeling they have also possibility to create process diagrams (P&ID, PFD) wich are coherent with 3D model. They have modules for generating structural construction, equipment, hookups, datasheets, etc.

In my opinion ProE, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor and others aren't good solutions in complex plant design.
