Double Fink Truss modification

Double Fink Truss modification

Double Fink Truss modification

(OP)
Hi,

I am looking at an attic conversion. The guy wants to remove the two central internal members of a double fink truss. I appreciate truss engineering is specialist but has anyone any suggestions on the type of strengthening required? Plywood Gussets either side / Reinforce the rafters (double and deepen), I dont think a ridge beam can be installed.

RE: Double Fink Truss modification

Pretty sure you don't (cant') do this without adding some bearing walls etc.  Being a double fink truss leads me to believe it is over 30' span.  This is usually not economically feasible as a retro fit.  During construction -it can usually be accomodated fairly easily.

Need a whole lot more info -

Span and Pitch
Sizes and grades of members
Spacing
Loading Required - Snow, Wind, etc
Dimensions of new room
New Loading Desired - sleeping area, storage, what??

You might want to post under "Truss Engineering Design"  Those guys do this for a living!!
