battery charger alarm
battery charger alarm
(OP)
When I first start my #1 EM generator, the battery charger indicates a pre alarm charger malfunction. 2nd & 3rd starts no alarm indications. On startup on my #2 EM, I don't get this alarm. Is there a problem with the charger and why?
The battery load tested ok, and specific gravity is good.

RE: battery charger alarm
The first genny has only the battery to draw starting current from and when it draws cranking current the 24V (?) battery will drop from the float voltage of about 28V to maybe 16V - 18V while cranking. This is likely what is bringing in the alarm. Once #1 genny is running the engine-driven alternator of this set will be available to provide starting current to the other set, supplementing the battery.
On an emergency installation I am amazed that you have a shared battery. One bad cell would take down both emergency sets - what an awful piece of design!

RE: battery charger alarm
Your question is NOT clear. You are talking about 2 EMs and three starts? Are you saying subsequent starts of #1 or you have (3)EMs ?
Please reiterate.

As itsmoked said, please make your query clearer.
Is this charger and battery bank is common to all gensies?
