buried valve
buried valve
(OP)
we have butterfly and gate valves on our main fire fighting ring, which is burried 2.5 meter underground HDPE.
Can we place buried valves without using valve pits.
can you inform me about the general procedure of placing buried valves?
thanks regards

RE: buried valve
RE: buried valve
Metal valves should be well protected from the possibility of corrosion, which generally implies the use of a corrosion resistant Epoxy Painting system.
One should take care when placing valves underground, because they are usually heavier than the adjoining pipe and might tend to cause extra stress on the pipe, if the valve were to settle. An adequate pad, usually concrete, should be provided below to equalize the soil loading with that of the adjacent pipe.
It is possible that some valves will require, in additiion to extended stems, lubrication and/or drain fittings to be extended above the surface as well.

Even flanged valves can be used, if the flanges are provided with flange protector kits to prevent ingress of foreign materials into the joint and gasket area. That space is generally then packed with grease.
