Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

(OP)
Hello I am new to this site and these forums but I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am using Solidworks 2006 and I am trying to show some iso views of cabinetry for a customer and each of these views are shown in "Shaded with edges" so I can show the wood grain etc. however it also shows the tangent lines in my prints and I don't want that as it can be mis interpreted by the customer for break lines instead of tangency. I have tried the "tangent edges removed" command but that doesn't work in "shaded with edges" view and I would use just shaded but it doesn't look that great.

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

Which version and SP of SolidWorks are you using?

Also which video card and driver?

cheers

LanGun,
First off...welcome. You'll find a lot of professional help in this forum. The guys and gals her are great!

Second, are you sure all the geometry is tagent? You might want to go back and verify that.

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

The Radeon is the problem.

No Radeon card is certified for use with SolidWorks. They will work to a degree, but anomalies will be seen sooner or later.
Best I can suggest is to try different drivers to see if that alleviates the problem.

I understand this is not a premiere modeling rig haha, but I think the issue is a setting are you saying that you "CAN" hide tangent lines in shaded and edges mode? And yes the geometry is tangent. here is a link that might help describe the problem.

Did you select the line in the view and RMB "Hide"? That might work.

yeah I tried hiding it and most of the obvious stuff I guess the first question should be "IS" it possible? and of course the next would be how but I might be wasting my time looking for something that isn't possible.

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

Well I have good news and bad news for you.

Good news is that it can be done ... in SW2007-SP3.1 smile

Bad news is that I could not do it in SW2006-SP5.1 sad

Time to upgrade!

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

Swx 2007 added the ability to show the shaded model with edges without showing the tangent lines.

Thank you for confirming, I know have one more reason to justify us paying for upgrade (sweet). And thanks for welcoming me to the site it seams to be a very informative place I am sure I will be found here again soon.

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

LanGun,
Look to the right of this webpage and you'll see a MVP list of SW's top dogs. I'm not one of them, but do help out once in a great while. These folks are the Pro's I was talking about.

Also, FYI do a search on past threads to see if your question has been already answered. We hate repeat questions that have been already answered in great detail.

Welcome again!

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

LanGun,
In your picture it doesn't look like a tangent line to me. It looks like the edges of two parts.
Add the view to a dwg, make shaded, then hide the line per macduff's suggestion.

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

That's odd.  I just did a quick check myself, since I didn't know about that feature in 2007--and it mostly works for me.  I have a part with a variable fillet in a couple of places and the edges of those fillets still show when tangent edges are selected not to be shown.

(FYI--might be a bit of a limitation in an upgrade, but I wouldn't expect to see variable fillets in cabinet design, either.)

RE: Solidworks tangent lines in drawings

I know it works in 2007 in model mode.....someone may need to verify it works in a shaded drawing view.
