Can anyone direct me to a reference/website that would give some helpful information on selecting abridge beam and runway beam for a bridge crane.  I will be purchasing the crane end trucks but I need to design the bridge beam and the runway beam.  I can design the I-beams based on the hoist load at the center of a simply supported beam but I was wondering if there are any standards that are in use for assumed side loading, max deflection, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

L/600 maximum deflection for rolling cranes.

You need to engage the services of a licensed structural engineer with experience in crane design.

AISC has a preliminary design program for bridge cranes...

CMAA crane requirements 70 states that the maximium vertical deflection of the girder produced by the dead load, the weight of the trolley, and the rated load shall not exceed 0.00125 inches per inch of span.  Girders are cambered an amount approximately equal to the Dead Load Defection plus 1/2 the Live Load Deflection.  Lateral forces due to accelerations are considered 2 1/2 to 5% of the Live Load depending on class. Wind loads should be considered per ANSI A58.1

Other considerations: Torsional Forces, Proportions, Allowable stress, Diaphragms and Stiffeners, Wheel Loading, Attachement, Stops, End Connection and Design Factor OSHA 29CFR1910.179

Consider asking your supplier or recommendations for help.
