problem with non-coplanar entities

problem with non-coplanar entities

problem with non-coplanar entities

(OP)
Hi,
I have difficulty to join certain entieis where I always see the message "two entieis are non-coplanar, is there a way to make those entities co-planar?

Best regards,
ct

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

Redraw them in the same UCS.

Or move them to a single UCS.  The ALIGN command can be helpful for this sort of thing.  Picking points may be easier in a perspective view.

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

Use the express tools "flatten" command to flatten most entities -so they have the same z value.  Note that this method  may not be entirely accurate on 3d solids.

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

Or just pick all the entities and asign the same elevation at once.

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

SouthernDrafter,

How is this done?  I run into this same problem as stated by the OP.  I find that alot of the drawing files I get from architects have non-coplanar walls and fixtures.  Running piping and ducting can get aggravating.  I typically do what Mike Halloran suggests and redraw portions of what I've already done - its time-consuming, but it works.  It would sure be nice to simply move everything to the same elevation with a simple command.

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

I've run into this a number of times! Especially with large drawings. And I agree with CarlB ...use the LISP routine "flatten". It's pretty easy, just go to tools and pick "load application" find "flatten" LISP and load, then hit enter and your on your way. The only problem with that is when you’re dealing with blocks that have some length in the Z plane. Good luck!

RE: problem with non-coplanar entities

Yes- Flatten is usually meant for entities that you'd usually think of as 2D- lines, arcs, circles, etc. It changes the Z value to zero. That's your best bet.

Another thing I'll do if I'm only dealing with say one end of only afew lines, for instance, is with no command running, select the line and pick its grips and use XY point filters- you'd pick the grip, then when asked for the destination (for that grip) go to OSNAP-Point Filters, choose "XY", pick the grip again, and when asked for "Need Z" type in "0". It'll drop that end to the current UCS. If the other end is off the UCS too, do the same thing to it. Both will be on the UCS, Z will = zero for the entire line, and you can move to anither entity.

But if you have too many entities to do this way, use the flatten.lsp, and then use this method to clean up any stragglers. The original problem might have come from not being careful about that Z coordinate when selecting an osnap, or something similar.

Also- avoid solprof, and begin to use soldraw instead. Some of the problem should diminish.

Good luck !
