What is "through Conduit" mean when referring to Pipeilne gate valves?

RE: PIPeline qustion

Through-conduit is also referred to as full-bore.  It is basically when the valve is in the open position, the bore has an uninterrupted interior surface across the seat rings and through the valve bore.

There are several advanatges: 1) affords minimal pressure drop, 2) there are no areas that can accumulate trash that might impede a pig or restrict the valve's motion, and 3) speaking oif [pigs, it allows a pig to pass thru.

"Through Conduit" may also be called a "slab gate" in some places sometimes.

Instead of a "wedge" that comes down into a seat, a "slab" of metal with a hole in it moves up and down. This way, like Greg said, there is not area that can accumulated "stuff" that would cause the wedge to not completely seat when closing.
