copy lines to another layer

copy lines to another layer

copy lines to another layer

Sort of a newby question,  How do I do this in 2D and Sketches?  I dont want to move the original, I want to create another one as a starting point for something similar on a different layer.

Someone please help,
Eric

RE: copy lines to another layer

Eric,

create a new layer which will be the active layer then.
Make you previous layer (Default ?) active again
then on this layer select all --> CTRL-A.  Click on the
button 'Move Elements' above the layer tree and from the
Pop-Up select your new layer.
Now you can select the new layer and RMB --> Hide (everywhere)

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate you taking the time.

But that is exactly what I don't want to do.  That moves the objects from (default) to (layer 1).  I want to create an identical copy onto layer 1 that I can then modify without effecting the original.

Other then saving a block, opening it, moving the objects in the block to a new layer and saving it and re-importing the block, is there an easier way to do this?

I'm using V18. Do I need to change a preferrence somewhere?

RE: copy lines to another layer

Copy and paste the elements you want to edit. Once you have pasted the elements you'll notice that the elements are stil highlighted. These highlighted elements are actually the copied ones. Make sure that you don't click anywhere in the draft page. Then click on the 'move elements' button to move the copied elements to other layer.

Hope this is what you want.

Hah! I've been clicking right through my chance to change the layer.  Thank you very much!
