move origin
move origin
(OP)
Hi, I am sure this question is basic, but I have not done it before and the help is not that useful when I want to get the answer fast to complete a job. 1) In an assembly, I have to move my origin to coincide to one of the parts's origin. 2) If I want to move the origin to any point, how do I do it ? (Similar to of Q1), 3) How do I rotate a part by some angle, with any co-ordinate system in the assembly. I tried the triad method, but that doesn't seem to help a lot for my requirement. I will ask a question about triad in a separate thread. Thanks in advance.

RE: move origin
You can use angle mates to control the rotation of a component in an assy.

You could also-depending on how your assembly structure is-suppress all the mates on the part that needs to be at the assembly origin, move it to the correct location, fix that part then, correct any mate errors.
This would work the best if all components are built off of each other, rather than each one mated to an assembly feature.
Hope this made since,
