Teach your own SWorks course?

Teach your own SWorks course?

Teach your own SWorks course?

(OP)
Has anyone on this board ever looked into teaching a SolidWorks course at a local community college?

Do you need permission from SolidWorks to even do it?

RE: Teach your own SWorks course?

I've looked into it and have been asked by a machine-design client (who teaches courses at the local community college) to fill-in once in a while as a substitute.  So I went through the process to sign up with the school (had to fill out a million colors of forms and state that I am not a terrorist--???--that's a new one for someone who has been self-employed almost ten years).

One thing you may want to consider is the surrounding curriculum taught at the school, since in lots of ways the nature of your SW teaching will need to blend in with that stuff.  For instance, in this case, I would emphasize machine design, good assembly practices, sourcing parts from the Internet from various vendors to include them in designs, etc.--because they have a strong contingent of students in machine design (as opposed to my primary focus of industrial design).  So you may end up needing to brush up on areas outside your immediate niche to help the students get the most out of the course (I think SW is far too broad and deep to cover in a semester, so aim well).

I was suprized to find that I was completely qualified to teach at my local tech college...

RE: Teach your own SWorks course?

Tech stuff (in my case) was qualified by years of experience instead of merely by awarded degrees--oh, that, and by enduring the paperwork filing process that happened to declare I am not a terrorist (whatever).

All great posts, thanks.  I will definitely pursue this in the near future.  I would like to get the CSWP first.
