IEC Short Circuit Standard for FPSO

IEC Short Circuit Standard for FPSO

IEC Short Circuit Standard for FPSO

(OP)
Hi to all,

I just want to collect some ideas and expert recommendation to justify which IEC standard to use for the calculation of short circuit currents for FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Vessel) power system; IEC60909 or IEC61363?

My experience we use IEC61363 for marine installation like LNG Carriers but one FPSO used IEC60909. Please advise!

Thanks and regards to all,
Phil

RE: IEC Short Circuit Standard for FPSO

Hello,

In my opinion, IEC 60909 is the general standard. When particular conditions apply, such as marine, you should use IEC 61363-1 for short circuit calculations. The simple fact that one has used 60909 can be misleading because the standard rating of equipment may be well above the calculated requirement. Still it is unorthodox.

Regards.

RE: IEC Short Circuit Standard for FPSO

The 909 can not be applied for marine plants, as explained in the first paragraphs.
