CO2 vertical storage tank design

CO2 vertical storage tank design

(OP)
Hi,
I have to design a storage tank containnig LIQUID CO2,
to ASME sect VIII div.1 ,MAWP 350psi, MDMT -40 deg.F, 8'dia., 26'H.Matl'S: SA-612,
I started to get physical properties of CO2,in order to determine the optimum operating (Temp., pressure).and reading some technical documents related to Cryogenic bulk storage.
I am using Compress for calculations.

my questions :
1- why we used to incorporate a vaccum jacket with this kind of tank ? why vaccum?
2- How we calculate the insulation?
3- is it really necessary to have a refrigeration system inside the tank, and how we design it?
4- for all accessoires ie: Nozzles, instruments , even lifting lugs, legs, etc.., Why are they in S.S material?
5- is it required special inspection during fabrication, I mean for instance: black light for detecting oil, durty surf., ..( as service oxygen)

Every ideas, tips, advises are very appreciated.
Thank you for your help.

1- why we used to incorporate a vaccum jacket with this kind of tank ? why vaccum?
Because vacuum is a good insulator.

2- How we calculate the insulation?
Apply the theory of heat transfer.

Some liquid carbon dioxide changes back to the gaseous state because of heat leakage into the tank. You need a refrigeration system to condense the gas back to liquid. To design the refrigeration system, you need to know the heat leakage and you need to know something about refrigeration. This forum is the not the place to learn such a broad subject.

4- for all accessoires ie: Nozzles, instruments , even lifting lugs, legs, etc.., Why are they in S.S material?
Because some stainless steel materials have properties that are suitable for low temperature service.

I don't think this is a usual NDE during the fabrication of a cryogenic vessel. Maybe some of the inspection experts in this forum can answer this. I do know that "black light test" is one of the inspection techniques to check for oil or grease contamination. But this check has something to do with surface preparation prior to coating of the vessel.

here's another reading matl for you...
