WPS/PQR

WPS/PQR

(OP)
Dear all,

Per ASME IX, "A WPS may require the support of more than one PQR, while alternatively, one PQR may support a number of WPSs."

I could understand "a WPS may require more than one PQR" as due to thickness range.

Could anyone provide samples of "one PQR may support a number of WPSs"?

Thank you in advance.

Multiple welding processes with base metal thickness and PWHT variations.

RE: WPS/PQR

Additionally, one could write an individual WPS for each grade of alloy under one P Number qualified with one of the grades under the same P Number; e.g., a seperate WPS could be writen for grade 316, 317, 347 etc. using their matching A-8 analysis filler metals with a PQR qualified on grade 304 using E/ER308 filler metals.

Metengr,

Sorry, I do not understand, could you please explain more?

Thank you.

RE: WPS/PQR

Say for example you qualify a PQR for welding on P-No 1 base materials up to 8" in thickness using the SMAW process w/0 PWHT.

This PQR could support either a WPS for GTAW/SMAW fill (combination process WPS) w/o PWHT, it could also support a WPS for just SMAW w/o PWHT, as well.

Thank you, metengr.

I am going to continue "digging" the code.

RE: WPS/PQR

Another good example of a single PQR qualifying multiple WPSs is QW-200.4(b).  Say for example you want to qualify a GMAW procedure for root layers only, and you want to use this PQR on separate FCAW and SAW WPSs, this would be one option of doing so.

Thank you, DVWE.
