Brackish Water effect on equipment

Brackish Water effect on equipment

Brackish Water effect on equipment

(OP)
Would anyone be willing to lend an opinion of brackish water effects on machinery, such as compressors for air-cooled chillers? I am talking about if they have been at least partially submerged in brackish flood waters for 3-4 days. I have seen systems work after the fact; however, I am uncertain as to whether my above example would warrant replacement of such a system.

Anything electrical needs close inspection, especially if it was powered when the water came up.

RE: Brackish Water effect on equipment

It depends on how soon it was cleaned.  Often brackish water has high levels of living organisms.  If the water/mud is allowed to stand a lot of under deposit corrosion can take place.
If the equipment was cleaned up and rinsed off fairly soon then if it looks OK it probably is fine.  You have to make sure that it really is drained and cleaned.
