design metal frame for fan and motor

Hello everybody!

Would you please tell me what book is good to learn about metal frame design?

I am trying to design a metal frame base for fan and motor. I am thinking if there is a book which describes the common rules or steps for designing metal frame. After I learn this, I can not only design base for fan and motor, but also design other metal frame by following the similar method.

Thank you very much for your any clue!

Regards

RE: design metal frame for fan and motor

Mason industries (vibration mounts) has a scanned version of a presentation made at an ASHRAE conference in the last millenium. It talks about independent bases of machinery on isolators (and a lot of other key stuff about machines on floors above grade).

As I recall beam depth 1/10 base length, filled with concrete partly to provide large torsional stiffness.  If I did not need or want the base weight Equivelent torsional stiffness could be achieved with a little carefully placed steel.

You might find some useful information in Blodgett's two books "Design of Weldments" & "Design of Welded Structures".In the past these two books were available through The James F.  Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation.
