Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

(OP)
First off, we have been with SE since V1 (now V19). The company has so many files that were created in Microstaion then saved to a server were it can be checked in/out. Although SE has a place to save a .dft to .dgn, when I open the .dgn it is not even close to being a clean file. It mainly corrupts geometric symbols, text, puts fraction's in between decimal dimensions. My question to the group is does anybody have a converter file that will closely fix this? or If I knew what file to modify either in SE or Microstation when it converts that may help. I am not very good with Microstation but I am willing to try anything. I have logged a IR with SE but they get the same results.

Thank you for anything that maybe helpful.

RE: Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

Not a direct solution but:

A previous employer had a lot of old drawings on a system called 'swift'.

When this system died they had all the files converted by a vendor into DXF format.  The DXF could then be opened by most other CAD systems including SE.

Now even DXF & DWG can get a bit messed up in SE but they're usually workable, especially in newer versions of the software.

Maybe you can find a way of converting the dgn into some kind or interim format which is then more easily worked in SE?

RE: Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

I suspect the text problems you see are font conversion problems.
It is especially apparent on things like weld symbols and geometric tolerance symbols.
You can map fonts for conversion, but not individual characters within the font.
For example, in SE the font for welds might use 'F' for fillet weld, but Microstation might use 'W'.
The reason DXF and AutoCad now convert pretty well is because the fonts are mapped correctly and there are equivalent AutoCad fonts in SE.
I don't know of any specific mapped fonts for Microstation -maybe UGS could develop one ?

RE: Saving SE.dft to Microstaion.dgn

Hi,

the Microstation (.dgn) is no longer supported by UGS.
So there will be no further development. I may be the
case that it's dropped in one of the future releases.
