Treatment of bolted joint

Treatment of bolted joint

Treatment of bolted joint

(OP)
Does anyone know of an information source that adequatley treats what happens when a bolted joint undergoes a change in temperature?  What happens to the piece being clamped as far as change in length, what happens to bolt pre-load, at what temperature change does the clamped piece become loose (if it is a different material that the bolt material) given the known pre-load at starting temperature, etc...  I think I am convinced in my own mind but have been unable to find a good treatment of this in published material, either in a good textbook or a respectable website.

Here is a NASA document on Preloaded Bolts:

RE: Treatment of bolted joint

Heckler,
Nothing to do with the Thread but nice to see there are others with the same opinion about Beckham!!! Totally respect Best's comment. Beckham was never in the same class as Besty - not good enough to lace his boots!!! But then again they all get paid too much for kicking a lump of leather around a field with one foot for 90 mins on a saturday afternoon.
