Duplex 2101
Duplex 2101
(OP)
I have a request to design a vessel using Duplex 2101. The UNS number for this material is S32101. I am running Build 6252 of COMPRESS and cannot find this material in the ASME 2004 A06 database. I also cannot find a similar SA-240 plate with a similar composition (21% Cr, 1.5% Ni).
Is this a recognized material for ASME Sect VIII, Div. 1 vessel design? I've seen references to ASME Code Case 2418, but do not know how this would relate to designing in COMPRESS. If so, will it be available in COMPRESS database?
Thanks

RE: Duplex 2101
The materials shown in the material selection lists in the component design dialogs are designated by the user in the main ASME materials database (select the Materials menu, select ASME command; "check" the desired materials in the main database).
If the material you want is not listed in ASME Section II Part D then you can specify a user-defined material. Click the "User Defined" button adjacent to the material selection list on a component design dialog. Enter the required information on the dialog that appears. I suggest specifying a unique name for the material and clicking the option "Save this in main database", the material can then be selected for use on other components and in other design files (select from the selection list at top of the User defined material dialog). Please refer to the COMPRESS manual for more information on user defined materials.
If you cannot find the material you want you should confirm that it is approved for use in Section VIII Division 1 or Division 2 application. If it is approved by a Code Case then you will need to enter it as a user-defined material.

You also need to confirm if Code Case 2418 is acceptable to the Buyer (Owner) and the Jurisdiction where the vessel will be installed.
