BOM software

I am looking for a good, reasonably priced software able to handle SolidWorks BOM. It should be able to extract BOM from assembly drawings, store manufactured and purchased parts in a database, handle revisions, etc.

RE: BOM software

I have not heard of a one-size-fits-all BOM program to do this. You may want to look into a PDM package (check out the partner directory on the SolidWorks website http://www.solidworks.com/html/partner.cfm). We have written custom programs to integrate our BOMs with our ERP system.

dsi,

Can you tell me, please, what your custom programs do?
Do you sell them?

RE: BOM software

Most of our programs are written privately for our customers. I have developed some generic programs to automate routine tasks (a couple may be posted in the FAQ section). This program was written for one of our customers and it is a proprietary application that can not be resold. Besides, it was written for their specific BOM and ERP structures and would probably not help you a great deal.

The program is run when the drawing is to be released. It basically extracts the information from the BOM and defines the additional 70 or so database values required to define a part in the ERP system. This data is put into a formatted data file. These files are then batch imported into the ERP system using a special Transaction program. This saves the customer from dedicating man hours entering the parts into the system and also avoids any typing errors in the transition. This is a one-way data transfer application (from drawing to ERP).
