Greasing One-Way Bearings

Greasing One-Way Bearings

Greasing One-Way Bearings

(OP)
This might seem overly simple but should you really grease one-way bearings?  It would seem like greasing them would make them slip.  The bearings I am referring to are the types of bearings that go in copiers.

Regards,

DDS

RE: Greasing One-Way Bearings

Grease of oil is good.  It provides a slip surface
intentionally.  Binding up or wearing away is not
good and that is what the oil or grease is for to
provide a light slip surface or protecting surface
to avoid wear and reduce friction.

RE: Greasing One-Way Bearings

From the Timken catalog "Oil is the preferred lubricant, as it minimizes wear and heat generation. For those applications wher oil is not practical, clutches are packed with a soft grease containing mineral oil. Thick grease will retard roller engagement and cause individual rollers to slip, possibly overloading any engaged rollers"
