Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

(OP)
A rep from a company that supplies our dyno, said I need to NTPT threaded fittings (in an email).

Is that a type of thread?  or is that a miss-type?

I tried googling and looking at the machinists hand book.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Looks like a typo to me.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Probably a typo;

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Must have meant NPT, National Pipe Thread.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

I'd guess NPT, I suggest you email him back and ask 'did you mean NPT'

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

As mentioned, this was probably a typo

I just wanted to point out some 'old school' nomenclature which was used by pipers

NFPT-National Female Pipe Thread
NMPT-National Male Pipe Thread

These may not be the official designation, but were commonly used a few decades past especially when 'calling out' a Crane forged steel union with male and female ends or similar fitting

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

He emailed me back when i asked if it was a typo and said it was correct, but that it meant National Tapered Pipe Thread, and attached a link showing me what NPT was?? THANKS FOR THE HELP BUDDY! HAHA

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

Actually, the "T" is not for "thread" but for "taper".  That's why NPS means "straight" pipe threads.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

STYMIEDPIPER said from the old school:

NFPT-National Female Pipe Thread
NMPT-National Male Pipe Thread

Since the second letter indicates gender, then:

NTPT-National Transgendered Pipe Thread.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

ha ha, so that's what they mean by crossed threads!

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

National tapered pipe thread .......... why the surprise?
-------- quite a common description - in place of
the old bsptt - slightly different pitch.

RE: Anyone heard or know what NTPT thread is?

"why the surprise?
-------- quite a common description"

It may be common where you are (?) but it's not in the UK, US or Canada ... or the internet. Hence the above posts.

AcronymFinder.com doesn't list it and http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com only lists;
NTPT    National Terrorism Preparedness Training (NIJ/DoJ)
