Can Solidworks and a cosmos add-on do the job?
Can Solidworks and a cosmos add-on do the job?
(OP)
Does anyone know how can i simulate and check if a piece such as the one in the image below will be in equilibrium, in other words, if it will stand still?
The one in the image is clearly unbalanced, it is just an example of what i want to do.
The scale is small and i will be using wood and metal nails. Deformations are irrelevant.
Ideally I would like to import a 3d model into a software and have it tell me at something like a quadrant were the piece will fall so i can correct interactively.
I guess someone has probably done something similar when designing a a chair, for example.

Thanks.

This will show you where the center of mass (cg) is. If the center of mass is in line with the legs, it will not fall in either direction (unless bumped). One step further is to created a new coordinate system that is on the centerplane of the legs and take your mass properties based on that coordinate system.
