RE: Pibomulti angle heads
1)overheating of the unit. Unit may have been too small for our application. We corrected by spraying coolant directly on the housing. Our second one was bigger but we used coolant from the start so not sure that it was needed.
2) You have to use two wrenches to remove tools/collets. One on the nut and one on the collet holder. Gear damage resulted when relying on the spindle to keep the holder from spinning. This is only a problem if your shop is undisciplined.
3)It doesn't run through our tool changer/magazine so we were limited to single tool programs.
4) we had problems with the production guys getting the feel of working in a plane other than X-Y. The second unit replaced the first after the big crash. There were smaller crashes before that. Same underlying issue as #2.
I will say that they seemed to work fine for what they are as long as you treat them nicely.
PS.
We cut only aluminum.
RE: Pibomulti angle heads
What is your machine taper (HSK-63, CAT40, CAT50 etc.)?
Which units did you use?
What types/sizes of cutting tools?
Have you any other experience with right angle heads before this (Koma, Alberti, Big Kaiser, Benz etc.)?
RE: Pibomulti angle heads
I recall there being a max spindle speed somewhatlower than we like to cut aluminum.
I have no other right angle experience.
