Animating a part

Animating a part

Animating a part

(OP)
Hello all.

I was wondering if it were possible to create a bendable part in solidworks and show it's movement in an animation.

Specifically, I am trying to create a "ring" that will clamp around a bar and be tightened on the bottom by a fastener.

I want to show, in an animation, the clamp being bent outwards, so it fits around the bar and then show it bending back into a circular profile around the bar until it fits snuggly around the bar.

Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Animating a part

You will have to create a series of configurations and then record them sequentially into a video clip.

RE: Animating a part

If you want a smooth transition (smooth animation), I don't know how you could do this unless you're willing to model lots of iterations of the same part with slightly progressive amounts of flex built into each part.  You then quickly show the next part and hide the "old" part--and so-on--until you arrive at the clamped version.

Otherwise, without a rebuild activity of some sort within the assembly, you cannot gain a part flex in SolidWorks--and I don't thin Animator will allow a rebuild during the animation.  (If it could, that would open up all sorts of new possibilities--such as assembly-driven sketches and part updates.)
