Has anybody come across either of these methoods being used on AWS D1.1. structures, either alone or supported by Pulse-Echo? I dont have a copy of AWS D1.1 to hand - is there any mention of these methods in the spec?

RE: Phased Array or TOFD Ultasonic testing

Nigel,

The copy of AWS D1.1:2006 does mention both Phased Array and TOFD techniques in the section 6.36 Advanced Ultrasonic Systems.

These alternative methods can be used in a proposed procedure that the Engineer has to approve.  Phased array can show “experimental evidence” that the required beams can be provided as per code requirements.  S-scan and L-scan imaging just happen to offer more beams than those requested.
