Does anyone know the key differences between CODAP/ AD Merkblatter and ASME VIII Div 1?

RE: Codap/ AdM/ASME VIII comparision

rak1,

I have not read CODAP (french code) and AD Merkblatter (german code), but for sure some of the differences would be on:
- factor of safety
- allowable stress philosophy
- material
- NDE requirements

Comparing the 3 codes you mentioned, ASME VIII-1 is the most common vessel code currently in use outside of the United States.

Correction on the last sentence on my previous reply...

Quote (doct9960):

'Tis also the most common vessel code currently in use inside the United States. wink

Here is a link to the background of the rules and comparative studies for EN13445
http://www.unm.fr/en/general/en13445/default.htm

free for downloading....takes a little while...

There are three kinds of people in this world; those who can count and those who can't.

I would be wize if you go to this site for comparison:

www.afiap.org

afiap= beeing the french association of pressure vessels enginners

RE: Codap/ AdM/ASME VIII comparision

Last time I looked (~10 years back), the European Codes required lower Carbon (I think < 0.25%) & some had prohibitions on Flux-Core arc Welding

RE: Codap/ AdM/ASME VIII comparision

There are a number of differences.

I haven't used Codap but AD-2000 requires impact testing of all weld procedures, without exception, as does EN-13445.

Both AD-2000 and EN-13445 require impact testing of all materials, without exception.

AD-2000 requires a separate design analysis for the hydrostatic test conditions and the factors of safety are different in each situation.

It is easier to use PD5500 than AD-2000 or EN-13445 and, if providing a vessel into Europe under the PED, the customer cannot add conditions or penalties for using one European code over another, Germany tried this by setting inspection levels of 5 years on non AD-2000 vessels, CEN are currently investigating this with a view to penalising the German Authorities.

There are a number of other issues, in AD-2000 you must use waisted stud bolts, for example.

The only way to know all the differences is to get a copy of the code.
