Wondering if any one has purchased or used Moss's book titled "Pressure Vessel Design Manual" and if they thought it was useful? Looking at the third addition to add to my library, but don't know much about it except TOC and index you can see on Amazon. Thanks.

yes

RE: Dennis R. Moss' Pressure Vessel Design Manual

I have read elsewhere that earlier versions have more typos and stuff, so I would go for the latest.

You might go to Amazon and read the reader reviews for the book there.

PVinspector,
It is one of those reference book one should have in his libary of reference books.  It does not give any theory, rather it is a collection of usefull formulas in step by step set up (read good old fashion hand worksheet format).  Good to have.  Yes, get the latest edition as the early edition was full of errors.

I have a pre 1995 edition with a very lengthy erratta.

I have an eleventh edition of Megyesy's PV Handbook which I use a lot.  I reccomend Megyesy.

PVInspector,

Moss' book is a compilation of information taken from different sources (codes, books, journals, Fluor practices, etc.) It is a good starting point for finding the "original" source of information. Whenever I use a formula in Moss' book, and when I have the resources, I always check the formulas against the latest editions of the original source.

Thanks much for all the helpful replies!

RE: Dennis R. Moss' Pressure Vessel Design Manual

I bought the latest version via amazon (in the UK). It is mainly a code designers book mainly aligned with ASME and has a lot of very good first principle theory, explanations etc. I consider it my most valued text book particularly for design details that are not included in design codes. i.e saddle design, skirt design, davits etc.
It realy depends what you are looking for.
