I have seen in here before "rules" of specifying a soft starter concerning voltage rating relationship between motor and starter, and now cannot find it.

I need to specify a soft starter and cannot remember if it needed to be rated higher than the motor or the same voltage...am I thinking of VFD's?

RE: soft start specifying

Both just need to be rated for the given source and motor voltages.  Nothing extra.

Now current or 'capacity' wise it some times makes a difference.

Generally if you have starting loads that are rough you might need a "heavier duty" softstarter.
