Roof Diaphragm Reinforcing

Roof Diaphragm Reinforcing

Roof Diaphragm Reinforcing

(OP)
I have a roof diaphragm that has chord forces that are larger than the deck attachment can resist. Does anyone know of a cost effective way to reinforced the diaphragm other that adding more frames?

RE: Roof Diaphragm Reinforcing

Could you possibly add bracing to supplement the diaphragm?  Do your chord members also need reinforcing?

The chord members are fine. I just can't get the deck connection to work.

RE: Roof Diaphragm Reinforcing

It is just the connections that are a problem?  Because if it is, I still would not try and increase the strength of the fastening, but rather jike's suggestion of bracing to supplement.  trying to increase your fastening strength on a diaphragm would be very costly, whereas something like a Reidbrace system (GREAT product, very easy to use) would be typical (ie: familiar to contractors) and not very labour intensive.

Good luck,

TKIL10,

Could you describe a bit how you are calculating "chord forces" in your deck-to-chord connections?  I'm not sure I follow what your issue is.
