measure along element

I'm brand new to microstation and I'm stuck !
I was using 'measure along element' sucessfully, but now I've got a file and when I try to do it I can't select anything and a 'no entry' type sign shows up. Can anyone help ???

RE: measure along element

Check if what you're tyring to measure is in a reference file; measure along element might not be able to measure that - though dimensions will as long as "reference scale" is on.

Thanks for your help. You pointed me in the right direction. It was a reference file. I found I could measure along element after going to File/Reference and turning Locate on.

RE: measure along element

Measure along an element is used in both design files and reference files. All measurement tools CAN MEASURE REFERENCE FILES!!!!! With no additional settings. If you are a Select Subscriber you can go to Bentley/discussion.com. Here at this site the support team monitors this. You may also check Askinga.com here you will find every and anything dealing with Microstation, this is a good resource.

RE: measure along element

Not if Locate isn't on.

AskInga is good, but the Bentley forums are horrible.

RE: measure along element

Dave
I have no idea about where your info comes from. Do you know any of the people at the Forums? These are very useful forums that cover every aspect of Microstation. You can't say that it is horrible (unless you had a bad experience) with one. We are a community of users that come together to share information for a common good. Not to bash others on other boards or forums.
