REACTION FORCE AT NOZZLE END DUE TO BACK PRESSURE

REACTION FORCE AT NOZZLE END DUE TO BACK PRESSURE

REACTION FORCE AT NOZZLE END DUE TO BACK PRESSURE

(OP)
Hello,
Can somebody help me to find
1) The magnitude of force along discharge(nozzle)pipe axis due to back pressure (assuming the valve is closed in the pipeline).

Pump Details :

Discahrge Pipe ID : 35.00 inches
Operating Pressure : 300 Psi
Distance between valve & nozzle end is 150.00 inches along the nozzle axis.

Thanks in advance..

Arline

RE: REACTION FORCE AT NOZZLE END DUE TO BACK PRESSURE

Hi Arline

If the valve is close and there's no flow won't this be a static problem and you just need to multiply the area of the pipe by the system pressure to get the axial force or am I missing something.

That's it, P * A.  It would give you the so called "closed end cap" axial tension force in the pipe's cross-sectional area due to internal pressure.

I did the same but i was getting around 360000 lbf which made to think on my calculation.

Now i am convinced from your replies that the calculation is okay.

Thank your very much for your quick response.

Hi Arline

Using the discharge ID and 300psi I get 288633.825lbf
