Multi- Sheets not showing up In edrawings viewer

thread559-160908

I was given this thread by a customer of mine I wanted to point out there is an answer to this because the bug was fixed in SW06 SP5.0. That does not mean that it makes all your problems go away. It just means it won't happen anymore.

[quote]If you have PDMworks make sure that ALL the files in the vault have been updated to the latest Version. If not, then they need to be and you can do that through Task Scheduler.

Also that when you open or sometimes close a file you will get a menu. That Menu is one of the longest ones in SW menus. It talks about "Views needing updated if you want to update the views select "YES" if you select "NO" then they will not be updated..." etc... It may not read word for word like this, but its a very long menu. I call it the paragraph menu. If you select "NO" or "CANCEL" to that menu, your multi-sheets will not be updated. Hence why some of you are seeing your drawings not showing all the info. Also in these drawing if you open them up in SW you may see an hour glass shape (see attached image of one of your drawings for Icon clarification) over top the icons of the drawing. If you see that, that means the Drawing sheet has not updated in each of the sheets of the drawing. It's very important that when you open and save a file that these Icons are not  present. If they are, your views will not show up in a viewer. It might require you to physically open up the file and select each sheet and update the sheets and save the file or Ctrl-Q the sheet and save. You have to double check for that icon, because if you see it, then that sheet will not show up in Edrawings or any other viewer. This SPR was fixed in SW06 SP5.0. So it will not happen again, but that fix does not fix the files that are already seeing this issue.

RE: Multi- Sheets not showing up In edrawings viewer

I do not trust letting SolidWorks update drawings in the PDMWorks vault.  I have seen problems with this before.  SolidWorks changed the BOM order on some of our drawings during the vault update.  This caused our BOM order on our drawings to be out of sync with our ERP system.  Not good.

You have to open the files up in SW a to get the views to update. I didn't mean update the views to the latest. But you do have to get the file itself up to the latest version. You need to update the views in SW so that will require you to open the files in SW and save back to vault if you find some of the drawing views not showing up in the viewer correctly or at all.

RE: Multi- Sheets not showing up In edrawings viewer

Updating the problematic drawings manually, one at a time, ie not using the task scheduler, would be my preferred mode of operation.  I just don't trust having SolidWorks/PDMworks working together to update a drawing in the vault without first looking it over.  I trust part files and assemblies, but not drawings.  Drawings are what drive our company's work process.  I have seen issues with the task scheduler method and SolidWorks/PDMWorks, so that is why I prefer to have it done manually, with a pair of eyes looking at it before it gets updated in the vault.

As for updating other files I have not had calls of that happening. The point of this helpful tip was for those people that are viewing drawing files and some views are missing on sheet 2,3,4 or how ever many sheets they have. The first sheet might show up correctly, but the sheets after that do not. So the way to fix that is listed above.

RE: Multi- Sheets not showing up In edrawings viewer

Thanks for the helpful tip.  I was not aware of this problem.  I was more wrapped up in warning some people of my experience with letting the task scheduler update the drawings in the vault, and not having comlete fidelity with the data between update.  I would prefer to check out a copy, save it, look it over (perhaps use the draw compare tool), and then check it back in to over-write the current rev in the vault.
