Wire hunt.

Wire hunt.

Would you guys point me to a source for magnet wire.  I need,(GAHW&^%!!) 13AWG to wrap a switcher toroid.

I only need 10 feet for protos not a $600 roll.

Suggestions?

RE: Wire hunt.

I see 50-ft rolls of 12 AWG magnet wire for $25 on ebay.

RE: Wire hunt.

Try MWS.

They are good about sending samples or supplying small rolls.

A suggestion; four conductors of 19 gage wire is easier to wind than 13 ga.  Also less resistance increase due to skin effect.

Thanks!

sreid; This is a switcher inductor wrapped on a 1" dia toroid that will run around 125kHz.  I need like 28 turns.  Still recommend 4 - 19s?   I look at MWS(wow) they have a bazillion types of insulator.  I will try to keep this thing in the - under 90C range.  What would you suggest?

zapped; With sreids suggestion I could now probably get 19AWG anywhere [Beldon],(if it doesn't suffer from odd-number rarity disorder like 13AWG).

RE: Wire hunt.

I tend to use 180 C insulation.  Solderable is usually nice; strip and tin with a soldering iron.

You can wind with 13 ga wire but your fingers will be sore.  It's a disaster in production.  And skin depth is shallow at 125 kHz.
