How to apply Torque load in Abaqus?
How to apply Torque load in Abaqus?
(OP)
Hello Abaqus users,
I am a new abaqus and I am trying to analyze and simulate a model, 24 in. dia. sheave and apply Tension load and Torque. Other available data is angle of rotation of the sheave. (example: for Tension=50 lbs. then apply Torque of 1000 in.-lbs. on wheel rotated 15 degress. Could anyone out there guide me how to I apply the Torque value and
the angle of rotation? I am using Abaqus v6.6.1.
Thank you,
Abman

Checked the Analysis Manual 28.2.3 Kinematic coupling constraints is very good information to guide you on how to constrain your model. I've also checked 27.4.1 Applying loads: overview however, does not have anything related to applying Torque load or anything related to apply an angle of rotation.
Added steps name "Torque" and when I create a Load, in the create load dialog box and in the "Type for selected steps" which of the option would be related to torque or where I can apply Force and Radius or angle of rotation?
I would greatly appreciate any inputs.
Thanks a lot!

You can apply a moment to a node using a *CLOAD applied to one of the rotational degrees of freedom (4-6).
To apply a displacement, use the *BOUNDARY and as above, apply the displacement to a rotational DOF.
I don't know where this is set in CAE, as I rarely use it, but I suspect that unless your point of application for the load is at a geometry vertex, you will need to create a reference point on the model to apply the torque/displacement.
