why do we make grinding(stoning) before annealing?
why do we make grinding(stoning) before annealing?
(OP)
In my firm 304 ss wires(about 330 micron thickness) is annealed before grinding. What is the metallurgical story of annealing before grinding?(annealing is made at 650 C)

Though the material would grind better (cleaner, better finish) if you ground it when it was harder.

Perhaps there is a squeezing force during grinding that results in a small extrusion and the annealing is performed to avoid chevroning or surface cracks.
