adjusting table or chart sizes

adjusting table or chart sizes

adjusting table or chart sizes

(OP)
If I create an excel spread sheet and paste it (embedded) into a .dft file, then double click to enter the spread sheet, add a collumn and close it, the .dft file doesn't readjust to show the new collumn.  I have to paste in a new one and delete the old.

Is there a way to get SE to understnad there is a new collumn to display?  I'm using V18.

RE: adjusting table or chart sizes

Hi,

you should use Insert --> Object from within SE and uncheck
link to file, then it's gets embedded and will update.

If you, however, adjust the width/height then SE will stick
with that size and any new columns added that are 'out of bounds'
will not show up, you have to manually adjust the size. This
will also happen in case the link option is not cleared.

/Edit,

just found out the following;
when during insert the link option is not cleared only deleted
columns will show but new columns won't show up. Resizing will
only 'stretch' the imported .xls.

That was my experience too.  It doesn't matter if its embedded or linked, the document doesn't update to get bigger after you change the size by adding cells.

RE: adjusting table or chart sizes

Hi,

so it seems to be a 'glitch' in SE. The only difference
between Cut/Paste/Insert with link and embedded is that the width
and height of the latter can be increased to show new
columns.

RE: adjusting table or chart sizes

We've had the same problem.  I've started putting the tables in word files instead.

However, word files have their own problems with seeming to get 'corrupt'.

RE: adjusting table or chart sizes

This problem has occurred in Edge for as long as I can remember.
What I do is put a character in a cell that is way outside the required table area, then you will be able to re-crop to whatever you want if you add rows/columns.
Unfortunately this has to be done when the spreadsheet is first created.

How do you crop the spreadsheet inside the .dft file?  I can only figure out scale it by grabbing the corners and click/dragging.  If I could figure that out then the character outside the normal area I use would work ok.

RE: adjusting table or chart sizes

Eric,

grabbing the 'handles' is the way to go to widen or narrowing
the spreadsheet inside the .dft
