Duplex / Carbon steel connection
Duplex / Carbon steel connection
(OP)
Hellow,
We have a rotating part made of Duplex which is fitted with 2 spherical roller bearings.
The roller bearings are protected from splash water etc with bearing coverplates and V-rings. However does there always manage to migrate some water into the bearingcavity.
Due to the Duplex rotating part and the spherical roller bearings which stand in direct contact we get a galvanic corrosion.
Does anybody have tips how to get rid of the connection between the stainless and c-steel part? Any coatings etc?
Keep in mind that the bearings are being installed with a tight Fit due to the heavy load.

RE: Duplex / Carbon steel connection
My first thought is a synthetic grease with corrosion inhibitors in it. Look here http://

Rust never sleeps
Neither should your protection

What is corroding?
The galvanic corrosion would be where the stainless and the steel meet. This should be the outside of the bearing.
If your rollers are in contact with the stainless, then they also need to be stainless, as well as the mating race.
Custom 465 has better hardness and corrosion resistance than almost any other PH grade stainless.
