How do I Save Toolbar settings?

How do I Save Toolbar settings?

How do I Save Toolbar settings?

(OP)
I used to knoew how to do this but obviously I forgot.  I tried help and nothing on FAQ's.

I had an extra shortcut to SW on my Desktop so I deleted it.  Naturally it was the one with Toolbar settings I have been using for a year or more.

It is a blessing in disguise because I needed to add some tools not being used and learn some new tricks.  But now how to save that template if I can say it that way just for now.  that must be the trick -- knowing which word to type into help -- surely not template?

I am keeping this SW session open till someone responds ...

Thanks in advance

RE: How do I Save Toolbar settings?

Use the copy settings wizard from the SolidWorks program group on your start menu. This can be used to save a registry file which you can use to restore your settings in the future. It also saves other SolidWorks settings and settings for some of the SolidWorks add-ins such as PDMWorks workgroup.

AFAIK, a shortcut does not hold information on "toolbar settings". Command switches can be added to the Target line of a shortcut, but they just call up what already exists; they don't create settings.

Are you sure you are logged in to windows under the correct user name? That would be cause #1 for missing icons & settings at some places...

Yes StefanHamminga.  Thanks for the hint but this is my own valid SW seat on my home desktop and I am the only user.

CorBlimeyLimey.  Hmmm, if this is true then why did the toolbar settings go away right after I deleted the extra shortcut?

Thanks Badwolf.  I copied your reply and pasted it onto a Word doc so that I can read thru it while trying ot find what you are talking about.

RE: How do I Save Toolbar settings?

All setting are saved at the registry level... you could export your Solidworks folder out in the registry and that would save it, but using hte Copy settings wizard is much easier and you can select whether or not you want to save out just your toolbars or not.

The only thing I can think of is if the shortcut was calling a macro which executed a ".reg" file (or similar function) to run.

Thank you SBaugh.  This sounds similar or same as Badwolf suggested but have not yet had time to check it out.

CorBlimeyLimey,  I have not been doing anything with macros on this desktop but have a few years ago at workplace.  This is one of the tool icons that I added as I intend to utilize macros where appropriate.

Is this something that SW could be doing automatically without me telling it?
