Different Codes

Different Codes

Different Codes

(OP)
Ok, basic questions I am trying to figure this out:

There are two main codes for fire protection, the International Fire Code (by ICC) and the Unifrom Fire Code (NFPA 1).  States and local AHJ's may select either one or their own to establish law.

I know this is a basic idea, but I am wondering if it is correct.

I found thread179-98356 for reference.

RE: Different Codes

Is there an easy way to summarize the differences between the NFPA 1 and the IFC?

RE: Different Codes

one book cost more than the other

you forget also some people still use the uniform, sbcci, life safety and boca.

As far as fire code not much difference

RE: Different Codes

When New Jersey was updating the fire prevention code they looked at NFPA 1 and IFC. NFPA would not permit changing any sections, take the entire code or not. IFC allowed NJ to add and delete sections as they wanted. NJ went with the IFC.

NJ has had a statewide uniform fire code since about 1985. In comparison PA has no uniform fire prevention code. Each city , town, etc. can adopt anything or nothing.
