Feature offset dimensions (boss/cut)

Feature offset dimensions (boss/cut)

Feature offset dimensions (boss/cut)

Haven't been here in while.

I'm trying to link the "From" offset dimension a feature to an existing dimension elsewhere.  As in offsetting the sketch "x" millimeters from the sketch plane and then continue with the rest of the feature.  Clear?

Am I missing how to get the dimensions to link?  If I double click the feature, that particular dimension doesn't display. Any sugesstions?

RE: Feature offset dimensions (boss/cut)

I don't quite get what you're saying.  Is the difficulty in getting feedback from the feature while within a sketch?  If so, perhaps you can exit the sketch, rollback before the sketch, and create or show the sketch entities of the feature to which you want to refer?

For example:

Make a sketch, select the option to extrude.

In the first option box of Extrude: "From" options - Sketch Plane, Surface/Face/Plane, Vertex, Offset.  Select offset and make the distance whatever, say 10mm

Make a blind extrude, 10mm and finish the feature.

By double clicking the feature in the tree, after creation, it will only show the blind extrusion depth, but not the offset depth.

Is this a better explaination?

Any suggestions?

RE: Feature offset dimensions (boss/cut)

Oh--can you see it if you tilt to a different view?  If not, I'd guess it's a bit of a bug--or else maybe they didn't figure out a clear way to display the offset vs the extrusion length itself.  Might have to edit the extrusion to find out--or, rename the extrusion with the two numbers built-in.  For example, rename to "Extrude 10, off 10" or some such label.

Which SW version are you running?

I'm running SW07-SP3 and it works OK.

It must have been a bug in 2005.  We haven't upgraded in a while.
