Merging Parts

Merging Parts

Merging Parts

(OP)
I am going to work on a part and later on i plan on giving it to my coworker so he can merge it into another part.

Is this possible?  I dont want to have an assembly because this part will be molded as one part.  Also, we dont have time to be sharing one file so we gotta work on two areas of the part separately.

Any advice helps, thanks.

RE: Merging Parts

Can you make it an assy at first so you both can work on the individual parts? When completed, "save as" a part.

so what you are saying is that when I save my assembly as a part, it merges everything together.

RE: Merging Parts

Insert one part into the other.

Insert-> Part....

use constraints to locate the part if needed. You can then use combine or merge them through use of a feature. You will have 1 part, yet you will maintian incontext realations to the part you inserted (unlike saving an assem as a part).

RE: Merging Parts

If you have 2 bodies  that intersect use the combine command and merge (or add) both bodies into one.

RE: Merging Parts

I've used CTopher's method and it works well.  I'm sure the other suggestions will also work fine, but I recently used this feature to reduce the number of parts in a CAD model so that my FEA package didn't require 200 parts input...totally unnecessary for my particular FEA application.  Reduced it down to 9 parts...still had all the same structure that the original CAD model had.

I tried CTopher's method yesterday.  The only thing i didnt like about it is that i ended up with a a couple of IGES parts within the part.

I'll give the other methods a wack this afternoon. Thanks for the help guys.

Not sure what you mean?  How is IGES involved in this because there is a way to reduce the parts when you are trying to IGES out, but it may involve assemblies.

RE: Merging Parts

I have never had IGES parts show up. What were your settings?
