50hp motor starter

50hp motor starter

(OP)
I am going to purchase two 50hp air compressors. What type of motor starters should I use?

RE: 50hp motor starter

And how long is piece of rope?

You'll need two starters, each rated for 50 hp motor.

If you can't put a little more effort into the question, you're not going to get much effort in an answer.

RE: 50hp motor starter

That's a pretty open-ended question there.  It really depends on what you want to get out of it.

1. Do you need a starter only, or a combination starter with fuses, a circuit breaker, or an MCP?

2. Do you plan on mounting the starter next to the compressor, or having a remote-nounted starter with a local start-stop station?

3. Are there any special requirements of the location that the starter will need to meet (explosion-proof, corrosion-resistant enclosure, etc.)

4. Are the starters going to be mounted in a Motor Control Center (MCC) or will they stand alone?

5. Do you want standard overload devices, or a solid-state overload relay?

6. Is there any special monitoring you'd like to do? (undercurrent, loss of phase, undervoltage, etc)

7. Are there any existing company standards that need to be met (pilot lights, construction materials, manufacturers, etc)

If you don't have the ability to design the system yourself, you might just want to have the compressor company give you a starter that fits the motors.  That way, you just need to hook it up and go.

RE: 50hp motor starter

I'd say cheap ones.
