Part / Subassy Coordinate System

Part / Subassy Coordinate System

Part / Subassy Coordinate System

(OP)
Is there an easy way to change, "normalize", the coordinate system of a part/subassy to match that of an assy for which the part/subassy is a component?  i.e.Let's say I create a new part/subassy relative to its default coord system and then put it into an assy but would like the part/subassy coordinate system to become such that its relative location and orientation to the part/subassy are defined by how the part/subassy sits in the assy.  I would like this in order to  create a universal coordinate system, facilitation the insertion of this part/subassy into any larger assy or layout.

Hopefully that is all stated more clearly than it looks to me !!!!

I am not that experienced with coord system manipulation etc, so hopefully this has some very simple answer.

Thanks,
Mike

RE: Part / Subassy Coordinate System

I am not aware of an easy way to “move” the default coordinate system of a part.  You would likely have better success by making a new coordinate system or set of planes at the desired location and use those for mating the part into assemblies.

RE: Part / Subassy Coordinate System

If you use the in-context (Top Down) method to create parts and sub-assys, the co0ord systems will automatically be aligned.

For existing parts you can use the Move/Copy Body function which creates a feature in the FM tree, or use the Edit Sketch Plane function to place sketches onto the correct/new planes.

See also Help > Index > coordinate systems.

For assemblies just re-orientate the parts.

cheers
