RSLinx compatibility
RSLinx compatibility
(OP)
Hello,
I have problem with establishing communication between Allan Bradley plc and my laptop.
I use RSLinx version 2.00.97.30 and interface converter 1747-PIC end everything is working fine on laptop which runs windows98.
Recently I installed Allen Bradley software on new laptop which runs windows XP professional , service pack2 and application is not working.
I tried with RSLinx versions 2.00.97.30 and 2.41.00 but unsuccessfully
Can somebody confirm that this versions of RSLinx are not compatible with XP and if no what I should buy.
Thanks in advance

RE: RSLinx compatibility
Prior to getting the UIC I was running RS Linx under NT4 which proved least unstable when using the PIC. My effort to use the PIC with XP was also not happy.
There has been a fair bit of discussion relating to A-B communications problems, but the search function doesn't want to find them. Perhaps it is a 'hide' function?

RE: RSLinx compatibility
Today I managed to establish communication with other version of RSLinx 2.41.00
There is a check mark in Launch control panel –to run application as a service
In that case system doesn’t work (communication errors with kernel driver)
but if application is started as application there is several errors during initialization like “software has not passed window testing to verify compatibility wit XP,fatal error initializing PIC device driver) but after that communication is established and system works fine.
Scotty are you saying that 1747-UIC should work fine with existing application I have now.
Thanks to you all for quick replays.

Maybe it had something to do with the old 2.0 version as you said the 2.41 works ok. Why don't you just stick with the 2.41 if it works?
I never let Linx run as a service because I don't like any software running that is not needed. Why let Linx run if I am not using RS...., So I uncheck this box.
About the startup error you are seeing:
"several errors during initialization like “software has not passed window testing to verify compatibility wit XP,fatal error initializing PIC device driver) but after that communication is established and system works fine."
I believe what you are seeing is a software test in XP. It looks for a "Windows Logo Test" signing for the PIC driver. It is supposed to ensure compatability. This error appears when the PIC tries to take over the serial port. This software check can be disabled (but not recommened) by right clicking on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Driver Signing > Ignore > Ok > Ok.
The UIC is for use without a serial port. We have serial ports on all but one of our XP machines and have not had any problems with the PIC. For the other pc without the serial port we purchased a generic USB to serial converter, and use the PIC with it. There is a list of known good converters if you search Rockwells KnowledgeBase.

Any idea where? It must be well hidden!
